QuikTrip Store Clerk

This is a part-time job in most stores. You actually work anywhere between 25 to 45 hours every week, depending on the needs of your management team. The advantage you get with these part-time hours is that your schedule can be very flexible if you want it to be.

As a clerk, you’re expected to run the cash register and ring up purchases for your customers. You’re also supposed to maintain the cleanliness of your store on a constant basis.

This is a very active job and the best way to be successful and get promoted is to constantly be busy in all areas of your store. Obviously, customers come first, so you have to provide the most exceptional customer service possible.

There are no minimum requirements for this position other than having the motivation and the desire to succeed in the company.

Once you have proven yourself as a store clerk, you’re ready for the next level. If you so desire, you will get a chance to be promoted to either a relief assistant or a night assistant.

QuikTrip Relief Assistant and Night Assistant

Both of these positions require you to be a shift leader for your store clerks. If you are working as a relief assistant, you will work 5 days during the daytime and you will be assigned 46 hours a week.

If you’re working as a night assistant, you’ll have the same duties and you’ll be working in the wee hours of the morning, such as a 10 PM to 7 AM shift.

Both of these positions give you approximately a $1 raise from being a store clerk. Additionally, you are assigned an average of 46 hours every week, which means you will earn 6 hours or more of overtime pay just about every week.

QuikTrip Second Assistant Manager

Once you prove yourself to be worthy as a release or night assistant manager, you can get promoted to the second assistant manager position.

Here, you will have duties such as opening and closing the store, leading and motivating your team of workers, and working hard on maximizing the profitability of your store.

QuikTrip First Assistant Manager

Once you become a first assistant manager, you are knocking on the door of having your own store and leading your team of employees as the actual general manager.

In this position, you will most likely be able to work the shift of your choice as you motivate and coach your store clerks to provide the absolute best customer service possible. You will also be performing many of the manager’s duties and this will give you a great amount of experience as you move towards a store manager position.

QuikTrip Hiring Process

After you submit your QuikTrip job application, you will get a call back within the first week. Usually, the call comes within a day or two.

You will be asked to come in for an interview and if you are applying for the store clerk position, you will probably have to take a math test before your interview with a hiring manager.

If you are going after a full-time salaried position in management, you will also have to take a math test and the company will perform a background check and drug test on you.

The interviewer will usually ask very simple questions beginning with the usual, “Tell us about yourself.”

If you are selected, it will take approximately 1 1/2 to 2 weeks to be hired. Then, you will attend a five-hour employee orientation and you will be given a training schedule. The actual training will take approximately two weeks.

If you apply online and someone does not contact you within 1 or 2 weeks, visit the store in person and inquire about the status of your QuikTrip application. Your application may get lost in the shuffle, and if it does, it’s important to at least make contact before you abandon your efforts to apply to this company.

QT Hiring Age

You have to be at least 16 years old to be able to apply at QuikTrip. At this age, you will most likely be a part-time store clerk. This will give you a great opportunity to earn some extra money while finishing school or starting your young adult life.

Does QT drug test for employment?

Quiktrip generally does not have its entry-level applicants submit to a drug test. However, it is possible and it is definitely a requirement for applicants seeking salaried positions.

History of QuikTrip

Burt Holmes loved what he saw in 7-Eleven stores in 1957 when he was visiting Dallas, TX.

He convinced his childhood friend, Chester Cadieux, to go into business with him and they opened up their first Quiktrip in 1958, in Tulsa, OK.

The company began showing good profits in 1962 and by 1967, it was operating 43 stores and it employed 167 workers. In 1976, Quiktrip decided to open stores to customers 24 hours, seven days a week.

Today, the company has more than 800 stores and employs over 24,000 people.

QT Benefits

Quiktrip shines when it comes to benefits offered to its employees. Full-time employees are able to get health coverage along with dental and vision benefits. They also have a life insurance policy which covers twice the amount of the previous year‘s salary.

It gets even better because part-time employees can enroll in the health coverage once they have worked a minimum of 1,000 hours during a plan year. This means if a part-time worker can get to 20 hours of work every week, they can be fully insured. This is almost unheard of in the industry!

Here are other important benefits for employees:

  • 401(k), profit-sharing plan, and an ESOP
  • Vacation benefits, i.e., after one year of full-time employment, you get 2 weeks vacation
  • Christmas bonuses
  • Weekly pay
  • Access to a credit union
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • …and more

Final Thoughts

Of all the convenience stores reviewed in order to give you a good idea of whether or not the job is worth pursuing, QuikTrip is somewhere near the top of the list.

It definitely gets very high marks from employees who have worked there. The reviews are far above average for any type of retail store.

I can’t say the same thing for many other convenience stores! Most of them don’t appear to be as well-structured as this company.

This indicates the company knows what it’s doing and knows how to motivate and train its workers. So, a job here is definitely worth looking into and can give somebody a great opportunity to jumpstart their retail career.

Working at any convenience store is not an easy job. You are constantly moving throughout the store, whether you’re ringing somebody up at the cash register, cleaning the floors, or helping a customer find what they are looking for.

Therefore, this job is perfect for somebody who is motivated and energetic and can withstand the daily stress on the mind and body. An entry-level job here is perfect for younger workers.

Older workers will find the job a little exhausting but it’s doable as long as they are in decent physical shape.

Store clerk positions provide the chance for anyone to work hard and move up the ladder of success very quickly. That alone makes this job one of the best retail opportunities available.
